Aerondight: Where steel meets legend and every swing tells a tale of unrivalled power and courage.

Aerondight is a special, powerful silver sword in The Witcher 3’s “Blood and Wine” expansion. It’s considered one of the best silver swords in the game.

To get Aerondight, you need to play the Blood and Wine expansion. If you don’t have it, you can buy it separately or get The Witcher 3 Complete edition, which includes everything.

You get Aerondight by completing a side quest called “There can be only one” in a new area called Toussaint. What’s unique about Aerondight is that it strengthens as you use it. It gains power with every successful blow. If you kill an enemy with a fully charged sword, it becomes stronger permanently.

How to Enter the Region of Toussaint?

To enter Toussaint, initiate the “Envoys, Wineboys” quest, available on various notice boards throughout Velen. You can find this new quest on notice boards once your character reaches a certain level, around level 28, but remember that it’s for characters at level 34.

Toussaint is a challenging area designed for high-level characters, so it’s best to visit when your character is stronger. If you want, you can also start a new character who’s already strong for the expansion, but you won’t experience the main game’s story if you choose this option.

How do you initiate the “There can be only one” side quest?

To start the “There can be only one” quest in Toussaint, be in the region and pick up a unique note on a board in Bouclair. The message says, “Test yourself with the Trials of the Virtues,’’ and can be found on a board near The Gran’place signpost in the city centre. Remember, you’ll only find this note in Bouclair, not elsewhere in Toussaint.

How to Earn Aerondight through the Quest Walkthrough

Go to the Isle of Lac Celavy until you reach a little Island in the middle of the lake. The mysterious sword is much like Excalibur, protected by a kind hermit in the middle of a pond.

But it can only be taken by someone who is very courteous. To prove you deserve the sword, you must show five important chivalrous qualities.

The qualities are.

  • Generosity
  • Compassion
  • Valor
  • Honour
  • Wisdom

Your actions can prove these virtues during your time in Toussaint. Multiple quest opportunities exist for each virtue, so if you miss your chance in one quest, you can usually make up for it in another quest, assuming you correct your mistakes.

Let’s start with how to prove each chivalric virtue;

How to Prove Your Compassion

This virtue can be proven relatively early in blood and wine. After the Arena battle during the main questline, all you have to do to show some compassion is spare Shell Mars’s life rather than kill it.

Alternate: In case you missed it, you can also do it in the secondary quest called big-game hunter and decide not to kill the Panthers.

How to prove your Generosity

Generosity is a fairly easy virtue since you must not act like an old greedy scrub. After completing the blood run, the main quest wanders around Boclair for a little while until you eventually are approached by a child delivering your letter. Tip the kid five crowns to show your generosity.

Alternate: If you couldn’t spare five crowns for the messenger, your other option is a little more expensive. Head over to the pain, turn bow Clare, and have him paint Geralds’s portrait and purchase painting afterwards for a thousand crowns for a job well done and to show your generosity.

How to prove your honour

Honour is expected to be the primary virtue of any sugar ignites, so unsurprisingly, there are several ways to prove your honour.

Your first option is through the secondary quest warble of a smitten knight; head over to Guillaume at the medical tent in the tourney grounds to get this one started. Continue through the tourney and complete the horse race. Shortly afterwards, you’ll be challenged to a duel. Accept the duel win to prove yourself honourable.

Alternate: Another option is to investigate a ghostly suave vile in the side quest till death; you do your part. When you return to the tavern, explain the situation as a marital spat to maintain your honour.

How to prove your Valor

To fulfil the virtue of Valor, continue through the warble of a spit night quest and complete the activities with Vivian in the forest. Afterwards, tell her that despite all that’s happened, you’re still going through a tourney like a real champ.

Now, you have to complete the tourney and win, so you should make a quick save before finishing the forest activities so that you can play the final arena battle in the event of a loss.

Alternative: Another way is through a side quest called feet as cold as ice. Complete the quest by defeating the beast and tell the night to grow some stones and take the trophy home.

How to prove your wisdom

For Geralt to express his wisdom is through the main blood and wine quest called ‘’La Cage a Foe.’’ Examine the White Slayer and hide in the cabinet when the time comes; instead of attacking the white, choose to lift the curse and have yourself dinner. This should fulfil your wisdom quota and earn you a new friend.

Alternate: You can complete a secondary quest called Father knows worst’’ to help save the brother and encourage a peaceful outcome by selecting the dialogue option No one dies today. These should prove to be some wise words.

Once you fulfil all five chivalric virtues, it’s time to return to the Hermit.

Go back to the hermit and let him evaluate your actions

Once you’ve proven your five chivalric virtues, return to the hermit by the lake. He’ll challenge you to a fight in an arena created by raising water walls around the lake. Use your Steel Sword and Hanged Man’s Venom oil to boost your damage.

The hermit will attack with water-based abilities during the fight, but you can dodge them by moving around. Stay generous; attack and retreat as needed. After defeating the hermit, the Lady of the Lake will appear, offering you Aerondight, a powerful silver sword and one of the best in the game.

It’s your reward for completing the quest.

How to Increase Aerondight’s Damage

You can boost Aerondight’s damage by +10 points, increasing it by +2 with each level gained by Geralt. The sword’s initial level requirement corresponds to Geralt’s current level when you complete the quest and obtain the sword.

How to add Sockets and Runewords to Aerondight

To equip Aerondight with Rune sockets, head to the Runewright NPC located in northeastern Velen at the Upper Mill. Introduced in the Hearts of Stone expansion, the Rune enchantment system enables you to add a maximum of three sockets to your sword, with the cost rising for each additional socket.
